ChatGPT reportedly prepares major redesign focused on agents as ‘chat is dead’ - 9to5Google

A new report reveals that OpenAI is planning a major redesign to ChatGPT that focuses on AI agents and coding, rather than its roots as a chatbot. The Financial Times reports that OpenAI is planning to roll out this revamped ChatGPT “in the coming weeks” with two points of focus – AI agents, and coding tools. The pivot comes as an OpenAI employee apparently said that “chat is dead,” referring to a belief within OpenAI that AI agents will be more valuable than the chatbot that most people know, and use ChatGPT for. Better competing with Anthropic is also reportedly a part of the push, with OpenAI’s Codex toolset being given “greater prominence and resources” as a part of the redesign. The new “superapp,” as it’s being called, would unify Codex and AI agents, appearing first on the web and mobile apps.
